Sometimes it’s the small steps that we need to take, which are just as important in moving us closer to our dreams, as are those big leaps which are often a part of them too.
Sometimes these steps go unnoticed by those around us, but I believe the fact that we know we are taking them, is what is important here.
Well another thing that I find really encouraging about moving towards those dreams, is that thinking is changing about the brain and about our ability to keep learning new things at any age. If you have a spare fifteen minutes, take a look at this Ted Talk by a brain researcher from British Columbia in Canada. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/LNHBMFCzznE
If you don’t have that time, then I can tell you that one of my takeaway points from it is that we are not on a downhill slide regarding our brains, we can always learn new things, but that learning is also very personalised, and takes practice to embed. Can I use that for my excuse for hating maths and loving books? Well maybe!
So, as you go about your week (whether it’s to a holiday tomorrow or to work), remember that if you’re working towards a particular goal or direction, I thought I’d share this old quote from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, because it sometimes keeps me focused:
"The heights by great men reached and kept,
Were not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night."
